Meals in the Desert

On a camel safari, the tour guide prepares meals for you.
He even made on the spot chapaties dough with flour and water.
It took time to get ready, so I felt it was a luxury to have such a meal in the desert.
On the other hand, I ate the same menu for lunch and supper.
After I had dinner with the guide, I slept with just a blanket on the sand under the starry sky.

砂漠の食事

キャメルサファリでは、ガイドさんが食事を用意してくれます。
彼は、野菜カレーとチャパティをたき火を使って作りました。
チャパティも、その場で小麦粉と水をこねて作るのです。
時間はかかりますが、砂漠でそんな風に食事を用意してもらえるのは贅沢なことだと思いました。
お昼も夜も同じメニューではありますが・・。
夕食の後、星空の下で砂の上で毛布にくるまって眠りにつきました。

House and Medicine in the Desert

The houses were built with plaster, but they looked clean and functional.
They had thick walls and small windows, so it was a bit dark inside, but people could live rather comfortably in the hot summer.

They asked me if I had some medicine for colds, but I just had some medicine I used when my stomach was upset.
They said they wanted any medicine at all, so I gave them some of my stomach medicine, explaining what it was for.
The camel driver boy had many siblings, it was a surprise that people could live in such a barren desert.

砂漠の家と薬

家はしっくいで作られていましたが、綺麗で機能的に見えました。
壁は厚く窓は小さいので、家の中は薄暗いのですが、夏の暑さの中でも過ごしやすいようです。

彼らは、私に風邪薬を持っていないか聞いてきましたが、その時私が持っていたのは整腸剤だけ。
どんな薬でもいいというので、お腹の薬だからと説明し、少しあげることにしました。
らくだ乗りの少年には兄弟姉妹が大勢おり、荒涼とした砂漠の中で人々が生活しているのは本当に驚きでした。

The Camel Safari Day1

On the next morning, when I went to the reception there was nobody there but me.
In the end, I was the only one who had signed up for that day's camel safari.
I expected some more tour mates, so at first I hesitated about going, but it can't be helped.

Around 10 a.m. I departed for the four day camel tour with an Indian boy who was the camel driver, and a camel.
The boy was 17 years old, and to my surprise, he really looked like my younger brother.
On the way, he stopped by a small village where there were just a few houses.
He said it was where he lived.

翌朝、レセプションに行くと、私の他には誰もいませんでした。
結局その日、キャメルツアーに参加したのは私一人だったのです。
他に何人か参加者がいることを期待していたので、最初はためらいましたが、どうしようもありません。

10時ごろ、私は、キャメルドライバーのインドの少年と、らくだ1頭とともに4日間のキャメルツアーに出発。
彼は17歳で、驚いたことに、彼の顔立ちは私の弟によく似ていました。
途中で彼は家が数軒あるだけの小さな村に立ち寄りました。
そこが彼の住む村だということでした。

Booking the Camel Safari

After checking into the hotel, I asked about the camel safari.
I asked the man at the reception if any other person would be joining tomorrow's camel safari.
He answered that there should be someone with me, so there would be no problems.
It was a three night, four day tour, and participants would spend the night in the desert under the stars.
I was so excited about the desert and traveling on a camel.
It should be a great experience!

キャメルツアーの予約

ホテルにチェックインした後、キャメルツアー（らくだの旅）について尋ねました。
受付の人に、明日他に誰か一緒に行く人がいるかどうか尋ねたところ、
他にもいるから大丈夫という答え。
3泊4日のツアーで、参加者は砂漠の星空の下で宿泊するのです。
私は、らくだの旅と砂漠をとても楽しみにしていました。
きっと素晴らしい経験となるはず！

Vigorous Children& Desert City

I departured from Jaipur and arrived in Jodhpur the next morning.
I had breakfast at a refreshment room (a cafe) at the station, then checked in my luggage and went sightseeing.
Jodhpur is called the Blue city because the walls of many houses are painted blue.

When I was waking, lots of elementary school kids came up to me and asked me " What's your name?", "What country do you come from?" and so on.
Some children asked me for my address and said they wanted to me write letters.
I was surprised that they were so vigorous.

活発なこども達

ジャイプールを出発し、翌朝ジョードプルに到着しました。
駅のリフレッシュメントルームで朝食を食べたあと、荷物を預けて観光に行きました。
ジョードプルは、多くの家の壁が青に塗られていることからブルーシティと呼ばれています。
歩いていると、たくさんの小学生が寄ってきて「名前はなんていうの？」「どこの国から来たの？」などとと質問攻めに。
何人かの子ども達は、手紙を書きたいから住所を教えてくれと言ってきました。
彼らの活発さにはびっくり！




Mehrangarh Fort is the main tourist spot in Jodhpur.

It was a magnificent building on the hill but unfortunately I don't remember the details.
I left Jodhpur on the same day that I arrived, and then went to Jaisalmer by night train.
Jaisalmer is located in the middle of the Thar desert (great Indian desert) and is called the Golden City.
I wanted to come here to see the desert.
The camel tour is one of the biggest tourist attraction in this city, and I also wanted to try it.

砂漠の町

メヘランゲル・フォートはジョードプルの主な観光スポットです。
丘の上に建つ非常に壮大な建物ですが、残念なことにあまり詳しいことを覚えていません。

ジョードプルに着いた同じ日に、夜行列車でジャイサルメールに向かいました。
町はタール砂漠（グレートインディアン砂漠）の中ごろに位置し、ゴールデンシティとも呼ばれています。
私は砂漠を見たくてこの町に来ました。
ラクダツアーは、この町の観光の目玉の一つ。私も挑戦してみたいと思っていました。
